Lawyers Feeding Illinois (LFI) is a competitive food and fund-raising campaign among lawyers and legal organizations across Illinois. LFI will support the work of the eight member food banks of Feeding Illinois and is chaired by a volunteer steering committee comprised of members of the ISBA in cooperation with Feeding Illinois.

From February 18 - March 1, 2013, teams of lawyers will compete to earn points by collecting food and funds. All donations will be routed to your food bank based on your zip code, so your contribution directly supports your local community. Learn more about the food bank serving your area here. And thanks to our fantastic campaign partners, ATG, 100% of credit card processing fees up to $200,000 are already covered - so your gift will go directly to help serve hungry families!

At the end of the campaign, awards will be presented to the teams who raise the most points overall and per capita in several categories.

To participate, you must register your team using the registration form available on this website. After you register, your team will receive a comprehensive toolkit with instructions, resources, and outreach tools to help maximize your campaign. Registration opens on November 5, 2012, and closes on March 1, 2013. Teams that register by December 17 will qualify for 100 bonus points for earlybird registration. For details, visit the registration section.

Teams can earn points by collecting food, funds, or both.

  • 1 point is given for every pound of food collected.
  • 5 points are given for every dollar raised.
  • 100 points are given as a one-time bonus if an organization registers by December 17.
  • 100 points are given as a one-time bonus if your organization delivers your collected food to your designated drop-off location.

Collecting food and funds

Raising funds: Contributions of money are welcome and are tax-deductible, and anyone inside or outside the legal community may contribute to a team’s efforts.

  • Online donations by credit/debit card can be accepted. All registered teams will have a unique online fundraising page, which will be automatically created at the time of registration. You can share a link to this page with friends, family, coworkers, or anyone at all to maximize your fundraising impact.
  • Teams may start collecting online donations as soon as they register.
  • Teams may also start collecting cash and checks once registration is complete; however, all cash and checks must be held in a safe place until the end of the campaign and reported in one lump sum.
  • More information on fundraising and reporting totals is available here.

Collecting food: Teams may also collect donations of nonperishable food items from the community.

  • Teams are responsible for selecting a collection location and coordinating drop-off or pick-up of food at the end of the campaign. Bar association teams may wish to designate a particular firm or location as their collection site.
  • A list of acceptable food items is available here.
  • All food and fund donations must be turned in by March 8, 2013.
  • Only food collected from February 18 - March 1 will count in your final score. Please do not collect food before February 18.
