WWSD?

The holiday season is officially in full swing.  Christmas trees are going up faster than you can say "mistletoe." As we all struggle with our holiday "to do" lists of shopping, cookie baking and getting those last few billable hours of 2012 on the sheet, ask yourself one thing: WWSD - What Would Santa Do?  There is only one answer to that question: He would register his team for the upcoming Lawyers Feeding Illinois Campaign! While we still have a good three weeks of shopping days left, there are only 12 days before early registration closes. So don't hesitate and risk a spot on the naughty list...register your team now and pledge to make the the ISBA's goal of providing one million meals a reality. After all, isn't that what Santa would want you to do?

Hunger: it's in every county.

I can not tell you how excited I am to be a part of the Lawyers Feeding Illinois Campaign. I was selected by ISBA President John Thies to serve on the committee for southeastern Illinois. I believe that southeastern Illinois and other rural areas of the State offer unique challenges for dealing with hunger. In my home area of Richland County, for example, over fifty percent (50%) of the school age children qualify for free or reduced lunches. This is just one indicator of the struggles that families are facing in smaller communities.

When we think of the hungry, we often think of urban centers. Too often, smaller communities in downstate Illinois are overlooked. The Lawyers Feeding Illinois Campaign is focused on addressing that concern by reaching out to attorneys from every county in the state for support for this important project. I encourage everyone to do their part because whether you are from a large community or a small town, hunger exists everywhere. Register a team to compete, or make a donation to support our efforts. By all of us doing our part, we can make a difference!

Our goal: A Million Meals!

Have you heard about the goal? Through Lawyers Feeding Illinois, the ISBA wants to provide one million meals to the hungry all across the State of Illinois. Nothing this ambitious has ever been undertaken by the bar, and for this to work, we need YOUR help! Talk it up. Tell your colleagues, co-workers and courtroom adversaries. Get your team together. Step up to the challenge.
